Yellowstone National Park

Grand Teton Moose sightingIf we told our bosses and coaches and teachers we were going to give them two, maybe three percent, it is pretty safe to say they would be disappointed.

So how is it that when Yellowstone tells most of its 3,000,000 guests that by seeing the sights from all of the paved roadways they are only seeing two, maybe three percent of the 3,468 square miles of National Park disappointment is the farthest thing from their minds?

One answer…

One Answer? Are you kidding? We could give 110 percent and still never come up with just one answer to a question that defines the emotions that can be felt while exploring Yellowstone National Park.

We do know disappointment is a feeling that doesn’t have a chance.

Moving at a Bisons pace

Sure, the thought of only seeing two, maybe three percent of the oldest National Park (established by the U.S. Congress as a National Park on March 1, 1872) might at first seem a bit lame.

Knowing that up to 98 percent of Yellowstone can only be reached by leaving the pavement behind on the other hand is not lame at all.

Much the contrary.

It’s exciting to know that seeing the magic that can be found within that two, maybe three percent is enough to have visitors of all ages declare Yellowstone National Park their best vacation ever, and even more exciting to know that there is so much more out there for those of us who like to throw on our backpack, lace up our boots and dive into the wilderness.

How great is it that we have a public land that is protected for our use, that is insanely diverse, that offers ample opportunity to view wildlife (without any bars), that is so rich in geologic history it tells a story that is millions of years old, that provides lakes, rivers, canyons and mountain ranges?  How great is it that each and every one of us has the right to visit this amazing landscape on each and every day of the year?

If you haven’t taken the opportunity to explore your National Parks you are missing out for so many reasons.  It’s your land, maintained by your tax dollars.
