“Superior” Hiking
Have you ever dreamed of tackling a long trail? You know, the thru-hike you have always wanted to try and just never found the point in your life where everything lined up to give you the opportunity. “One day”, we all say, “one day I will make that adventure happen”. Our question…What’s wrong with today, or tomorrow? Why not let that one day come sooner rather than later? We think we have a trail that will put that one day well within your grasp…
We all have the same excuses…time, money, job, kids. Well, your excuses are no good with us! We mean come on, we are the Get Out More Team, did you really think we would let silly excuses let you off the hook from fulfilling the life changing adventure that can be found in a long distance hike?
Don’t get us wrong, we do understand that long trails are completely consuming, that’s one of our favorite aspects of a thru-hike.
Your dreams don’t have to be put off forever though because we have just experienced a trail that will give you everything the best of the best long trails have to offer and this trail could realistically be thru-hiked in just a few weeks.
You know you can score that much time and backpacking is an inexpensive form of recreation (another of our favorite things about long distance backpacking), you can get a couple of weeks vacation from work and this is an adventure even the kids would love, looks like your out of excuses.
What trail are we talking about…We are talking about the Superior Hiking Trail.
The Superior Hiking Trail is just over 200 miles and extends from the Canadian Border to Duluth, Minnesota. The Trail Follows the rocky ridgeline above Lake Superior, an environment that offers numerous ups and down with many far off views of Lake Superior and the Sawtooth Mountains as rewards for your efforts.
The landscape is very diverse and the well marked trail leads you from cliffs and rock outcroppings to lakes and creek and river valleys. There are over 80 backcountry campsites along the trail and the trail connects seven of Minnesota’s state parks.
The shuttle services that are avaliable along the SHT make every trailhead and every section of the SHT easily accessible for short day hikes, weekend outings and long distance adventures for those of you searching for your life goal of a thru-hike.
We absolutely loved our time spent on the Superior Hiking Trail and truly believe the SHT is a trail that could fulfill your long distance dreams.
See You Outside,
Randy and Sheri Propster
